At the heart of the Qbic hotel in Whitechapel, London, the new restaurant and bar Motley is set to create a character filled space for locals and travelling millennials alike.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything Motley stands for, and the team have strived to incorporate this into each and every aspect of the restaurant and it’s offering.
An exciting selection of ‘Waste Not’ dishes will use produce that would otherwise have been discarded, and will include leftover potato hash, fried egg, bruised tomato ketchup, and, Pptato peel and leek ends soup.
This is just one of many simple and creative ways the team are able to address the matters close to their hearts. Low food miles and a veggie forward menu come as standard, with local markets like Broadway and Borough featuring heavily in the supplier line-up.
The 130-seat restaurant bar and lounge, designed by Finch Interiors, will be a place that makes guests smile and a celebration of the quirks that make people human.
Motley will be open all day every day – from breakfast, through brunch, lunch and dinner.
The à la carte menu will include, charred tenderstem broccoli, Beluga lentils, garlic, chilli, tahini labneh and nigella seeds; Baby back ribs, roasted peanut sauce and autumn slaw; dry-aged burger with two patties, lettuce, pickles, tomato, club sauce, brioche bun; naked superfood avocado burger with beetroot patty, lettuce, pickled red onion and chickpea mayonnaise; and a Motley fish and chips with battered codling, salt and pepper squid, tempura prawns and tartare.
A ‘Feast’ menu (£25pp) will also be available, with food that is built for sharing – big pan dishes and informal serves, including baby back ribs; cheesy fish pie and herb grilled chicken paillard – all designed to feed conversation. To wash it down, a selection of sharing cocktails, craft beers, punches and of course a decent wine list will be available.
Set within the main dining room, there will be multiple enclosed private spaces available for group bookings, designed to offer somewhere with a little more intimacy for friends to eat, while experiencing all the informality and friendliness that Motley stands for.
The drinks menu will be overseen by Dan Berger (of Iceberg Consultancy), former head of bars’ at The Ned hotel, and will focus on crowd pleasing classic cocktails including a cherry old fashioned and a seasonal bellini, as well as some signatures creations like fig leaf margarita (tequila, fig, lime, cinnamon salt). An approachable and enjoyable wine list will be available by the glass and bottle, as well as independent craft beers from across London and a smaller list of spirits with a focus on local botanical gins.
